Park City is a vibrant, extraordinarily picturesque place to live. My husband, two children and I, consider ourselves lucky to be able to call Park City home for the past two decades. Park City is a very unique real estate market because it serves as both a residential bedroom community to Salt Lake City, which is only twenty minutes away, and it's also a world class ski resort. The city has changed dramatically in the past twenty years, as have real estate values. The market here is complex and is composed of many "micro markets" that vary tremendously in value even though they are located in very close proximity to one another.

Most non real estate professionals don't realize that Park City has it's own private multiple listing system (MLS) and Board of Realtors that service it, while neighboring communities like Salt Lake City and Heber City use an entirely different multiple listing system and belong to a different Board of Realtors. 

Since knowledge is power, here's a tip that will empower you in your search for Park City property. In order to minimize the time and effort you expend and to avoid frustration - hire a local expert. Work with an experienced realtor who belongs to the Park City Multiple List Service and whose primary Board affiliation is the Park City Board of Realtors. (An agent's primary board indicates where they conduct the majority of their business). If they meet these qualifications, the chances are high that they specialize in the Park City market and will have a vast local knowledge base. If you are planning to look at both Park City and Salt Lake City properties, work with two experts, one for each area. This will help you access all available property information specific to each market, which allows you to make a well informed purchase decision.
